On June 26, 2000. . .  
The International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium announced a working draft of the human genome. The following year in February of 2001, the working draft was completed and published. Final sequence mapping of the human genome was achieved on April 14, 2003.
 
The project was a 13 year undertaking with immense impact and benefits to the science community from molecular medicine, disease analysis, human evolution and more.
