On August 10, 1897 . . .
Dr. Felix Hoffmann first synthesized acetylsalicylic acid while working at Bayer. This was the first time ASA was made in a chemically stable form. Dr. Hoffmann's work went through a number of large studies and the results found his substance to be pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory and fever-reducing.
Bayer went on to develop a process that would make the substance available to the public. In 1899, it was sold for the first time under the name, Aspirin.
