Karl Landsteiner was a biologist and physician. Landsteiner spent much of his career with a working interest in the nature of immunity and the mechanics of antibodies. His work in pathological anatomy, morbid anatomy and immunology helped shape our understanding of these sciences.

Landsteiner is perhaps best know for his identification and discovery of the blood groups, which was formally recognized in 1901. He was later awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1930 for his achievement.
